Cloud computing

“Moving to the cloud” is a hot topic these days. One of the most talked about cloud services is Microsoft’s Office 365. Primarily an online email service, Office 365 can do a lot more than replace your aging Exchange Server. We’d like to highlight 3 situations that demonstrate how migrating to Office 365 is helping our clients:

  • Customer A has a small office with 3-4 users and a mix of devices (desktops, laptops, smart phones and tablets) but no file server.
  • Customer B has a larger office, but needs an affordable replacement for their aging Microsoft Small Business Server that they use as a mail and file server.
  • Customer C has an expensive hosted email solution that is missing some key features. As a 501c3 non-profit, they are always looking for ways to reduce operating costs.

In all cases, Office 365 has offered the best solution.

  • Customer A purchased Office 365 Business Premium which includes hosted Exchange email, Microsoft Office Professional and OneDrive cloud-based file storage. They are able to email, use Office applications and share files from all of their devices without purchasing a server.
  • Customer B switched their email to Office 365 Business Essentials and purchased a less expensive file server. Migrating email from their aging server to the cloud has decreased costs and kept them productive with minimal downtime during the transition.
  • Customer C also moved to Business Essentials to save money, while getting a consistent email experience from all of their devices (PC, laptop, tablet & phone).

Microsoft lets you scale easily from one user up to hundreds or even thousands. It’s great for startup businesses who cannot yet afford a server (Customer A), who don’t want to support their server (Customer B) or feel that they are paying too much and not getting enough out of their current mail solution (You guessed it: Customer C). Many non-profits are eligible for a free basic Business Essentials email plan, saving them the cost of hosting their own mail server or outsourcing. They can choose to add paid features for as few or as many users as needed.

There are dozens of Office 365 plans and it can be difficult to decide which is best. CompuType can guide you through that process. We can also assist with the migration planning, acquisition of licenses and actual move to Office 365.
